Find Travel Insurance including Repatriation

When travelling abroad, there’s always the risk of falling ill or getting injured, which depending on the severity may require you to return home.

Travel Insurance with repatriation helps avoid costly expenses if, after falling ill abroad, the emergency assistance team deems it necessary for you to return home to get treatment for a previously declared medical condition, or something unforeseen.

Travel Insurance with Repatriation at Just Travel Cover

At Just Travel Cover, most of our standard policies include cover for repatriation. However, it’s important to check your specific policy wording as some insurers refer to this differently. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, it’s vital to declare these on your Travel Insurance as failure to do so can affect your ability to make a claim, or get the assistance you require.

Having Travel Insurance with repatriation helps get you home and get the treatment you need, without having to worry about added expenses. Simply tell us where you’re headed and for how long, list any relevant medical conditions that apply, and we’ll provide you with a list of cover options ranging from bronze, silver, and gold to help you choose the right level of cover for you.

Can I get Travel Insurance including Repatriation with pre-existing medical conditions?

Yes. At Just Travel Cover, we offer Travel Insurance policies with no upper-age limit for hundreds of pre-existing medical conditions. These include repatriation should your condition unexpectedly require you to return home. Travel Insurance with Repatriation FAQs

What is repatriation under Travel Insurance and what does it cover?

In Travel Insurance, repatriation refers to the costs of getting you home due to a range of unexpected circumstances including illness, injury and/or death.  Please check the specific policy wording for full information and details on what is included under repatriation.

What is not covered under Travel Insurance with repatriation?

Generally, repatriation under Travel Insurance does not cover:

  • Undeclared pre-existing medical conditions – those which you did not declare on your original policy.
  • Injury or illness caused by drugs, alcohol, or reckless/illegal behaviour.
  • Injuries resulting from sports or activities not covered under your insurance.
  • Travelling against the advice of the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO)
  • Death by suicide
How do I get Travel Insurance with repatriation included?
Repatriation is included under most Travel Insurance policies, meaning you should not need to purchase it separately. It’s important to check the specific wording of your policy to make sure that you are covered for any pre-existing medical conditions or activities you plan to carry out during your trip. Otherwise, you could end up paying costly medical expenses should it becoming medically necessary for you to return home/be repatriated.
How do I know if I need to be repatriated?
Your insurer and treatment provider will determine whether you need to be repatriated when you seek medical treatment abroad. They will work together to determine the treatment required and whether you need to be repatriated home to receive it. If you are not well enough to travel, you may need to receive available care until your condition improves first to enable you to be repatriated safely.
How much can repatriation back to the UK cost?

Repatriation costs vary depending on how far you travel and to which country. The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has shared several cases to help both insurers and travellers understand the potentially astronomical costs of repatriation. In one case, a traveller in Spain required medical treatment after a fall before repatriation back to the UK, resulting in £124,000 worth of expenses. In another, repatriation back to the UK cost £70,000 for a traveller who contracted COVID-19 in Cyprus. Such unprecedented costs show the importance of arranging Travel Insurance to make sure you don’t foot the bill should the unexpected happen.

Does the EHIC/GHIC cover repatriation?

No. Neither the European or General Health Insurance Cards (EHIC/GHIC) cover repatriation. While they may cover access to medical treatment at the same cost as a local resident would pay, these cards are not a substitute for Travel Insurance, nor do they offer the same financial protection. Your EHIC/GHIC is useful to take away with you in the event you end up having to see a doctor for a more minor illness or injury, but you should always arrange separate Travel Insurance that covers all pre-existing medical conditions.
