Disney Cruise Line Cruise Insurance Requirements

Get Cover for Your Disney Cruise

From magical Disney shows and deck parties to themed, fine-dining experiences, there’s lots to love about cruising with Disney Cruise Line. With a range of adults-only and family-friendly activities, there’s something for everyone onboard. Whether you’re heading on a European & Mediterranean cruise, exploring the Caribbean & the Bahamas, or discovering North America, you’ll want to make sure your Cruise Travel Insurance meets Disney Cruise Line’s requirements. Here’s an overview of what’s required and how we can help at Just Travel Cover.

Required Cover for a Disney Cruise

Cruise Insurance is strongly recommended for a Disney Cruise. This is because you will be responsible for any medical costs incurred during your cruise, the costs of which can quickly exceed those of your entire trip without insurance.

Suitable to Cover Cruises: Make sure your Travel Insurance policy includes specific cover for cruising to protect you against cruise-related incidents not normally covered under standard policies. These include missed port departures, cabin confinement, and medical treatment or emergencies onboard.

Note: At Just Travel Cover, all of our policies are suitable for cruises. Just make sure to answer ‘Yes’ to the cruise question when applying for a quote.

Full Trip and All Destinations: When arranging insurance for your cruise, you’ll need to ensure it covers the full duration of your trip with Disney Cruise Line, along with all the destinations on the itinerary. Note that the length of cover should include any stays before or after the cruise.

Emergency Medical Expenses: As with most cruise lines, Disney Cruise Line expects passengers to have a minimum of £2m cover for medical expenses and £50,000 for emergency evacuation and repatriation. This is to provide adequate cover in the event of any medical emergencies onboard.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions: If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, you must declare these on your insurance policy to ensure they are covered in the event you require any treatment on board your Disney cruise. Failure to declare any conditions may invalidate your policy, making you liable for any costs.

Cancellation Cover: While not a mandatory requirement, cancellation cover is important to give you financial protection when booking a more expensive trip, such as a cruise with Disney Cruise Line. It also includes cover for interruptions and delays that can arise unexpectedly, protecting your investment. We also offer Top-Up Cancellation, which is ideal for holidays that exceed standard cancellation limits, offering additional cover of up to £50,000 per person upon referral. We recommend booking your cruise insurance as soon as possible after booking your Disney cruise, to ensure instant protection should something unexpected happen requiring you to cancel.

Proof of Cruise Insurance: While not required for boarding, Disney Cruise Line requires proof of insurance when accessing medical treatment onboard. Other necessary documents you’ll need to comply with Disney Cruise Line’s requirements include:

  • A valid passport for each guest when boarding
  • An entry visa (in addition to a valid passport), depending on your nationality and the country you’ll be visiting
  • The Online Port Arrival Check-In form, to be shown by the person who booked the cruise
  • A signed Authorisation for Minor to Travel Without Parent or Legal Guardian form, for those aged 17 and under, travelling without a parent or legal guardian

Disney Cruise Line Cruise Requirements FAQs

How can I ensure my Cruise Insurance meets Disney Cruise Line's requirements?

While Disney Cruise Line does not make Travel Insurance a mandatory requirement, it is strongly recommended and should include:

  • Specific cruise cover for any cruise-related incidents not covered under standard insurance (e.g. missed port departures, cabin confinement).
  • Cover for emergency medical expenses or medical treatment onboard, as you may be asked to show proof of insurance when seeking treatment.
  • Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation
  • Cancellation and curtailment cover should you need to cancel your trip or return home early
  • Personal requirements including pre-existing medical conditions, and cover for any specific activities you have planned.
What happens if I don’t have cruise insurance at boarding?

Disney Cruise Line does not require you to show proof of insurance at boarding, but it does require you to show a valid passport and proof of port arrival time. We would always recommend having proof of insurance, as this may be requested when seeking medical treatment on board the ship. This makes having the appropriate cover for your Disney cruise (including all/any pre-existing medical conditions) important to protect you from costly medical bills should you become ill or injured at sea.

Why is cancellation cover important for Disney Cruise Line's cruises?

Disney Cruise Line holidays are often once-in-a-lifetime experiences and can come with a higher price tag, particularly for families or those travelling during peak seasons. Having cancellation cover in place means you are protected if you need to cancel unexpectedly, due to illness or a family emergency for instance.

At Just Travel Cover, our policies include cancellation cover up to £12,500 per person as standard. For higher-value trips, we can also offer top-up cancellation cover up to £50,000 per person when arranged over the phone. It is an important way to protect the cost of your holiday and enjoy peace of mind from the moment you book.

How far in advance should I book my cruise insurance?

Securing cruise insurance is recommended as soon as you book your trip (ASAB). This is so that your cancellation cover starts immediately, meaning you don’t have to worry about losing out financially should you have to cancel your cruise.

Are my grandchildren included on my Cruise Travel Insurance policy?

At Just Travel Cover, our single-trip family policies enable you to include all travel companions on the same policy. This means if you’re heading on a family cruise with Disney, you can include your grandchildren on the same policy for ease. You can do this by choosing the ‘family’ option when answering the ‘Who would you like to insure?’ question on our quote form.
