Fibromyalgia Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance for Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a long-term condition that causes pain in the body, also known as Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS). According to the NHS, an estimated 1 in 20 people are affected by fibromyalgia to some degree. Managing symptoms can be challenging, especially when travelling but with dedicated Fibromyalgia Travel Insurance, you can focus on enjoying your travels knowing you should be covered for anything unexpected arises.

Fibromyalgia Travel Insurance covers you for emergency medical expenses in the event you need medical assistance when travelling, as well as repatriation – this is the the cost of getting you home for treatment if this becomes medically necessary.  Cancellation cover is also included if you unexpectedly have to cancel your travel plans due to an insured reason such as unexpected illness/injury.

Travel Insurance for Fibromyalgia FAQs

Do I need to declare Fibromyalgia on Travel Insurance?

Yes. Fibromyalgia is classed as a pre-existing medical condition and must be declared on your Travel Insurance. Failing to do so puts you at risk of costly medical expenses should you need to unexpectedly receive treatment for fibromyalgia abroad, which differs vastly across countries. By declaring fibromyalgia, along with any other pre-existing medical conditions, on your Travel Insurance, you can ensure you are adequately covered.

What does Fibromyalgia Travel Insurance cover?

Fibromyalgia Travel Insurance covers emergency medical assistance/expenses, whether as a result of your fibromyalgia (provided this is declared and accepted) or sudden illness or injury. It also covers cancellation for an insured reason if, for example, you suddenly become ill and need to cancel your trip, and repatriation. This refers to the costs of bringing you home if a visit to a hospital abroad deems it medically necessary for you to return home for treatment.

Is there an upper-age limit for Fibromyalgia Travel Insurance?

No. As with most of our standard policies, we offer fibromyalgia Travel Insurance with no upper-age limit. Whether you’re in your 50s, 60s, 70s or 80s and are looking for specialist Travel Insurance with cover for fibromyalgia, we’ll be happy to help.

How does having Fibromyalgia affect the cost of insurance?

Declaring fibromyalgia may result in a higher insurance cost due but it’s important to declare this regardless of how it affects the price to ensure you are adequately covered. Note that failing to declare any pre-existing medical condition(s) could invalidate any potential claim and does not always guarantee a cheaper quote. Factors such as your age, the destination, and duration of your trip are also considered.

Can you fly with Fibromyalgia?

Yes, provided your doctor is in agreement with your travel plans and has given you the ‘fit the travel’, we’d be happy to arrange suitable travel insurance for you.
