How does having a fracture or broken bone affect the cost of insurance?

Having a fracture or broken bone shouldn’t majorly impact the cost of your Travel Insurance, however, more severe breaks requiring further treatment could affect the cost. It’s important to remember that costs for Travel Insurance are calculated using a range of different factors including your age, destination, and length of travel, as well as any pre-existing medical conditions. Declaring a broken bone or fracture is important to ensure you receive the right level of cover.

Do you have to declare broken bones & fractures on Travel Insurance?

Yes. Broken bones, fractures, and dislocations are classed as a pre-existing medical condition, meaning they must be declared on your Travel Insurance. Failure to declare any pre-existing medical conditions can effect your ability to make a claim on your policy.

What if my fractured or broken bone is the result of osteoporosis?

If your broken bone or fracture is the result of fragility due to osteoporosis, you will need to declare both a broken bone and osteoporosis on your Travel Insurance policy. This is to ensure you are adequately covered for all your needs, and that any claims you make relating to these conditions are considered under your policy.

I have had a joint replacement following a break. Does this need to be declared on my Travel Insurance?

Yes. If you have had a hip or knee replacement following a break, this will also need to be declared on your Travel Insurance. For more information, head to our Travel Insurance for hip and knee replacement pages. If you cannot find your specific condition listed under our pre-existing medical conditions section, give us a call to discuss this on 0800 294 2969.

Can I fly with a broken or fractured bone?

You may also need to inform your airline in advance to make any necessary arrangements including seating and any other adjustments to help you fly comfortably.
