Travel Insurance for Alzheimer’s

Find Travel Insurance for Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia, affecting around two out of three people living with the condition in the UK. It is a progressive illness that affects thinking skills, memory, and ability to carry out daily tasks, requiring sensitive management and support. As the condition progresses, needs may change, requiring a different approach to care. If travelling with Alzheimer’s, it’s important to secure specialist Travel Insurance for Alzheimer’s, to make sure your condition – and any subsequent needs – are covered abroad.

Travel Insurance for Alzheimer’s FAQs

What does Travel Insurance for Alzheimer’s include?

Travel Insurance for Alzheimer’s covers you for the unexpected when travelling away from home, whether arising from medical emergencies or travel-related disruptions. It covers:

  • Emergency medical expenses – should you suffer illness or injury abroad and require treatment in a hospital
  • Treatment for pre-existing medical conditions – when declared initially on your policy, should your symptoms flare up unexpectedly
  • Cancellation or curtailment – protecting your holiday in the event you need to cancel or cut short your trip due to unforeseen circumstances
  • Repatriation – should you need to be medically repatriated home in an emergency (including transport and associated expenses)
  • Baggage cover – providing up to £300 cover in the event your luggage is lost or stolen

You can’t always predict what will go wrong when travelling, if anything. Travel Insurance for Alzheimer’s ensures both your condition is covered and you’re prepared financially for the unexpected.

Is Alzheimer’s a pre-existing medical condition?

Yes. Alzheimer’s is a pre-existing medical condition and must be declared on your Travel Insurance policy to avoid costly medical claims, should you require treatment abroad. Make sure to declare your condition in full, including any other related or unrelated pre-existing conditions to ensure all your needs are covered.

What if my health status changes and I can no longer travel?

Not to worry. That’s where cancellation cover comes in under your Travel Insurance for Alzheimer’s policy. This helps you reclaim the costs of your holiday, if your condition worsens suddenly and you can no longer travel. It also covers other unforeseen circumstances such as bereavement or redundancy. At Just Travel Cover, we offer up to £12,500 cover per person as standard. We always advise making sure your cover limit is more than sufficient to cover the cost of your holiday. With this in mind, we offer Top-Up Cancellation for higher-value holidays such as a cruise, bringing you up to an additional £50,000 cover per person upon referral.

Can I still get cover if I am awaiting an official Alzheimer’s diagnosis?

Yes. You can still get Travel Insurance if your Alzheimer’s diagnosis has not yet been confirmed. We’ll need you to provide some information about your symptoms and any recent tests for which you are awaiting results (this can be provided on your behalf by a friend or family member if preferred). We’ll then match you with the insurers who may still be able to cover your undiagnosed condition. For more information visit our Travel Insurance for Undiagnosed Conditions page.
