Thinking about booking your dream holiday? Don’t let your back problems get in the way

If you suffer from back pain, you’ll know that it can make even the simplest of tasks uncomfortable. While this may be the case, you deserve to have a holiday just as much as anyone else. Be well prepared and find Travel Insurance that covers your back problems before you travel.

Choosing the Right Travel Insurance for Your Back Condition

We understand that there are various types of back injuries, and your case is specific to you. A common back problem is a strain, which could have potentially happened due to a muscle injury. Other potential conditions include a slipped disc, sciatica, or ankylosing spondylitis, and it’s important you declare anything that has been diagnosed on your Travel Insurance. When selecting ‘back pain’ during medical screening, you’ll be asked to choose from “Back Pain”, “Chronic Back Pain” or “Lower Back Pain”. If your back pain is the result of another medical condition, such as an infection, a break, sciatica, arthritis, or cancer, you’ll need to ensure you declare that condition separately.

Compare Back Problem Travel Insurance with Ease

Our quick and easy online medical screening process is straightforward to complete. By answering a few questions, you’ll see a list of insurers who can provide cover for your specific medical condition causing your back pain, such as sciatica, or cover for the back pain itself, and it will be referenced on your documents. You can then compare policies across insurers and choose the best back pain specific policy that is catered to you and your needs.

Worrying about your back pain shouldn’t stop you from enjoying your trip. Making sure your Travel Insurance covers you will give you peace of mind to relax while you’re away.

Affordable Holiday Insurance for All Ages, Conditions and Destinations

Travel Insurance is an essential part of your holiday planning, and it is important to check if your policy meets your needs.

It can cover your medical expenses if you’re injured or have an accident while you are away. It may also cover the cost of getting you home, if it’s a serious injury, or you miss your scheduled flight due to a stay in hospital.

You should arrange holiday cover as soon as you book a trip, so that you’re covered for any monetary loss if you need to cancel for some unforeseen reason such as illness, death of a family member or having a serious accident that prevents you from travelling.

Travel Insurance will often cover your luggage too, if it is lost, stolen or damaged.

Travel Insurance for Back Problems FAQs

Is back pain a pre-existing medical condition?

Yes. A pre-existing medical condition is any problem you had before travelling. No matter how serious or mild your back problem is, it is considered a pre-existing medical condition. Therefore, it is important that you find a Travel Insurance policy that covers you in case a medical emergency were to happen while you’re abroad. If your back problem is caused by a separate medical condition, such as sciatica, slipped disc or arthritis, this must also be declared on your Travel Insurance.

What does Travel Insurance for back problems cover?

While Travel Insurance will provide cover in case of a medical emergency (often picking up hefty medical bills), it’s important to remember that your policy also provides cover for repatriation (getting you home), trip cancellation, loss and theft of baggage and much more. It is important to declare your back problems or underlying health conditions causing your back problems, such as arthritis, on your Travel Insurance policy.

Should I declare my back problem when taking out Travel Insurance?

Yes. It is essential to declare your back (and any other) condition on your Travel Insurance. You should inform your insurer about any pre-existing medical conditions that you have, including any problems with your back. If you do not declare your back problems, then your Travel Insurance policy may become invalid. If you encounter a back-related medical emergency while travelling, you may not be insured and would have to pay expensive fees for any treatment you receive. For this reason, we recommend that you declare your back problem on your Travel Insurance.

Can you fly with sciatica?

If your back problems stem from sciatica and you are worried about flying with the condition, you can usually fly with sciatica, but it may require some preparation and precautions. Consult your GP before flying, especially for long hauls, as sitting for extended periods can exacerbate sciatica symptoms. Options such as selecting aisle seats for more legroom, using lumbar support, and taking gentle stretches can help manage discomfort during the flight.

Does Travel Insurance for back problems cover arthritis?

If you suffer from arthritis and this is what is causing your back problems, it is important to declare this when getting a Travel Insurance policy. Arthritis and back problems are considered separate pre-existing medical conditions, and cover for each needs to be specified when applying for Travel Insurance. This will ensure that you are covered for medical treatments, emergencies, cancellations, or any other complications related to both your back problems and arthritis while travelling.
