Staff Stories

I enjoyed my apprenticeship and working at Just Travel Cover. I feel I can learn from people who will push me to become more successful. I am also in the top 5 for all our key stats

Join us as we catch up with Katie, to hear all about how she left school and joined Just Travel Cover as an apprentice.

Hi Katie,

Let’s jump straight in…

What is your job role?

“I started as an apprentice but have recently, just qualified and I have been taken on as a permanent Sales advisor”

That’s fantastic, well done… We understand that you joined Just Travel Cover straight from school, is that right?

” Yes, this was my first experience of a ‘real’ job. I left school in the May and started my apprenticeship in the August. I can’t believe how fast it has gone.”

You know what they say, time flies when you’re having fun… Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship and not go to college?

” I really liked the idea of being able to earn whilst I learned. I got paid monthly, unlike some of my friends and even got a qualification out of it. It was a win win for me.”

What work did you have to complete to help get your qualification?

“There was some coursework to do to go towards my end point assessment. I had to do a PowerPoint and a professional discussion.”

Did you find it anything like school?

” No, not at all. I worked 9am – 5.30 pm and got paid! A working environment is completely different to being in a classroom, and everyone was so friendly.”

So what was your first day like?

“I had an introduction to Travel Insurance and learnt more about the different types of Insurance such as car/home and how they differ. It was really helpful, as it made learning about our different insurance products a lot easier. I was also shown around the building and introduced to my manager and team. When I first stepped into the building I was nervous, but by the end of the day I couldn’t wait to get back”

What does a normal day for you look like?

” I arrive at work around 8:45, login to my computer and make sure I have my system loaded. Our phone lines open at 9am and we need to make sure that we’re in ‘ready’ for our first call. I then take customers through quotations and help resolve any queries. In our peak months, it can get busy but it makes the day go a lot faster!”

Are you given opportunities to learn/progress?

“Yeah, there is always new things to learn as schemes can change. In my job role, we need to know these changes so we can offer our customers the right advice. We provide Travel Insurance for medical conditions, and I always learn something new each day. “

What do you love about your job?

“I love speaking to a range of different people every day and helping customers find suitable cover for their holidays, especially those who have had trouble finding a policy elsewhere.”

What would you say the worst thing about your job is?

“Sometimes customers can become upset if prices are too high or we are not able to provide cover for their medical conditions. We do have other partners we can recommend to help them find insurance though.”

Thanks so much for sharing your Just Travel Cover journey with us Katie, we will let you get back to claiming the top spot on that leader board…
